Whether you’re a new rider looking for something small to start out on, or an old timer with countless miles under your wheels, or anywhere in between, Star Motorcycles has a 2011 V Star model that has you covered.

From the smallest member of the family, the V Star 250 (MSRP $4,090), to the big boy, the V Star 1300 Tourer (MSRP $11,990), six models offer a range of size and amenities to suit your inseam, your budget, and your riding style.

V Star 1300 Tourer

With an adjustable windshield and leather-covered hard bags standard, the 1300 Tourer is made for the highway. And with a fuel-injected 1,304cc V-twin engine, this bike will take anything the road can throw at you. From the twisties to the sweepers, from mountain passes to the superslab, you’ll never lack for smooth, reliable power.

While the largest of the V Stars, the 1300 Tourer is still only a mid-size touring bike compared with many others, and as a consequence, it offers, says Star, "a lighter, sportier, hot-rod-inspired ride." Its 4.9-gallon gas tank will go more than 200 miles between fills, covering about 42 miles on one gallon. And with a seat height of only 28.1 inches, it’s a highway machine that even the vertically challenged can handle with ease.

V Star 1300

If the canyons you cruise are made of steel and glass rather than sandstone or granite, the Star 1300 (MSRP $10,890) offers a relaxed riding position and new lower seat to make your commute a pleasure.

Much the same bike as the V Star 1300 Tourer, minus the windshield and hard bags, the Star 1300 employs the same fuel-injected 1,304cc V-twin engine. It also features the same 5-speed transmission with belt final drive.

V Star 950 Tourer

Another capable highway bike, with a little less weight and muscle, the 950 Tourer (MSRP $9,390) gives up little else on its big brother. The slightly smaller tank but slightly better gas mileage provide the same 200 or so miles between stops, and the broad, well-padded seat is not likely to demand a stop for its sake. Just get on and go.

Air-cooled rather than liquid-cooled, the 950 Tourer runs a 942cc V-twin, 4-valve, SOHC power plant. Seat height is a very low 26.5 inches and the wet weight is 657 pounds.

V Star 950

Again like the big boys, the Star 950 (MSRP $8,290 - $8,390) is essentially the same bike as the Star 950 Tourer, minus windshield and hard bags. This middleweight cruiser provides "an exceptionally light feeling riders are sure to appreciate," says Star. Two options on paint scheme, Raven or Deep Blue, determine the MSRP, with Raven being the higher priced of the two.

V Star Custom

Packages are fine, but maybe you want more of a custom look on your motorcycle. With the Star Custom (MSRP $6,890) you get a simple, low-priced starting point with a wealth of available options so you can make the bike your own.

Your starting point will be a 649cc air-cooled V-twin engine with dual carbs, 5 speeds, a disc brake in front and drum in back, and a single shock with adjustable preload. The seat height is 27.4 inches, the tanks holds 4.2 gallons of fuel, and gas mileage runs around 49 mpg. Wet weight is 513 pounds.

Then the fun begins.

V Star 250

At 324 pounds wet, they just don’t come any lighter or more agile than the Star 250. Whether you’re a beginning rider or just want something small and economical to ride around town on, the Star 250 fills the bill. The engine is an air-cooled, carbureted V-twin, and a disc in front and drum in back handle stopping. Seat height is 27.0 inches. This may be the baby of the family but it’s still a serious motorcycle.
